Woodland:
Leicestershire is one of the least "treed" counties in England and our Parish is no exception. Small spinneys and planted trees are mainly on private land but can be observed from minor roads (eg at Wistow and around the Manor) or from the canal towpath. Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers are relatively common as are Nuthatch and Treecreeper. Unfortunately Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers are no longer found in the area; the last recorded breeding record was in about 2010. Muntjac are sometimes seen in these wooded areas but they are a shy and under recorded species.
